National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Manufacturing: Young’s Seafood

Two Young’s Seafood employees have become the first students to graduate from the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Manufacturing. They have both completed Production Management: A Lean Approach, an online course designed specifically for the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Manufacturing by the Grimsby Institute.

The course consists of five modules designed to give an understanding of lean manufacturing through the setting of factory standards and the management of process lines. The learner has to successfully complete each module before moving on to the next, with each step gradually building their skills and knowledge.

It takes 90 guided learning hours to complete, but as all activity is entirely online, the learner can undertake each module at their own pace. As a working mother, this suited shift manager Tina perfectly.

“I found it easy to fit in time at the computer without it taking me away from my family,” she said. “My manager was very supportive and was happy for me to get on with the course during quiet times at work.”
