Who is the training for?

National Skills Academies can provide skills training for everyone who would benefit from it.

This includes:

  • Potential recruits, for example school leavers, graduates and other new entrants to the workforce, giving them the added skills they need to become employed and succeed in their careers.
  • Existing employees, from entry level to senior management, ensuring that today’s workforce keeps pace with business skills and the rapidly changing demands of the global economy.

Over time, the skills academies will form closer links with schools, to get in at ‘ground level’ and influence the pattern of teaching for the employees of tomorrow.

National Skills Academies also want to reach groups, such as older workers, who currently face obstacles in accessing skills training. This will broaden the base of recruitment for employers and ensure that our workforce truly reflects the talent and diversity of our population as a whole.

‘Poor productivity cost UK employers £70 billion in 2005, equivalent to 36 days per worker per year.’
