6 February 2009: Training 2000 has become the latest Quality Assured Approved Provider for the National Skills Academy for Nuclear.
The Skills Academy contracts with providers throughout the UK who meet the rigorous standards to ensure the highest quality provision is obtained. This process is fundamental to ensuring a quality standard of training across the nuclear sector. This will aid in addressing the current fragmented system for the delivery of training, which has no common standards and significant duplication, by introducing a system of standardisation and promoting skills transferability.
The Skills Academy Quality Assurance scheme aims to ensure that only the highest quality provision is associated with the Skills Academy, allowing employers to choose providers with confidence.
Martin Eatough, Engineering Programmes Director said, “Recognition from the Nuclear Skills Academy as an approved supplier is another reflection on the quality of service we provide and we are already starting to see the benefits of this accreditation. Three of our current group of 1st year Apprentices have secured jobs with an employer who was originally referred to us by the Skills Academy.”
Jean Llewellyn, Chief Executive of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear said;
“We are delighted to welcome Training 2000 to the National Skills Academy for Nuclear’s provider network. Training 2000 will have an initial focus on Apprenticeship programmes for the Skills Academy. Research by Cogent Sector Skills Council highlights Apprenticeships as an essential entry point to the industry, to fill the current and future vacancies in Skilled Trades occupations—mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation.
The number of apprenticeships currently being delivered is insufficient to meet current and future demand. The Skills Academy via its network of quality assured providers plans to deliver a 300% increase in Apprenticeships within the first 3 years of business, with a continued rise to meet the potential 4,500 Apprenticeships required by the nuclear industry.”
